Final Navy Ship Due in Devonport Tomorrow

The new HMNZS Wellington is due to arrive in Devonport tomorrow, joining its sister ship HMNZS Otago. (Pictured)

From the NZ Herald...

The 1900 tonne ship was the last of seven new ships ordered by the Labour Government under the $500 million Project Protector programme.

The ship has a top speed of 22 knots and a range of 6000 nautical miles.

Staycation, in Devonport

Jim Eagle over at the New Zealand Herald has written an interesting account of a staycation in Devonport...

Times are tough, Christmas can be an expensive hassle, the top holiday places will be packed out and, even in a recession, chances are all the good sites at the camping ground were booked out long ago - so, why not try a staycation this year, and spend the holidays at home?

I happen to live in Devonport, which is nice at any time, but particularly delightful over the summer holiday period when everyone else has gone away.

Auckland named one of world's top ten party towns

Can you believe it?

Auckland has been named by Lonely Planet in the book '1000 Ultimate Experiences' as the number 9th be place to party in the world.

“Myriad cafes, bars and dinner clubs cater to a hip young clientele. Try the glittering waterfront for smart bars, and hit the happening clubs (some stay open 24 hours). There are plenty of live shows on offer too, from folk in Devonport to louder sounds at Mt Eden.

Auckland, with Devonport in particular is definitely more of a gem than we thought!
